Shooting Basics – for members only

Get back to the basics. Shotgun, rifle and handgun. Fundamentals of shooting can be improved by participating in the core shooting disciplines of Trap, Metallic Silhouette, Bench Rest and PPC.

Participating in the regular shooting matches that are scheduled throughout the season is beneficial to you as an active member and to the purpose of the club. Shooting is a social activity. Learn the rules of each match event.            Shooting Basics

Sunday May 14th, 2017 from 11 am to 3 pm the ranges will be reserved for club members to participate in a shooting match , or two, or more, of their choice. Whether you are knocking clays out of the air, metal silhouettes off the rails or punching holes in paper, you will be challenged to improve yourself. Bring your gear.

Range Clean Up Day

With luck the snow should be gone by the end of the month and the ugly bits that accumulated over the winter will surface, ready for picking. Picking up, that is.

Saturday April 29th is Range Clean up Day.

All those spent cartridges you left behind will be there for you to collect. Those paper targets that blew away will be lying in the bush for you to retrieve and place into the dumpster.

Come on out and help clean up the range.  There will be a Cease Fire on the entire range from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm.

Proposed Change to Membership Year

At the AGM in February 2017, a motion was put forward to change the membership year from the current cycle to  April 1st to March 31st.

As you are aware the membership year for the WRPC is currently January 1st to December 31st which also coincides with the club’s fiscal year. The administrative time required to process the rising volume of renewing memberships and also reconcile and prepare the financial statements at year end is becoming a challenge. The requirement to track any pro-rated membership fees adds to the work load. These were some of the reasons behind the suggestion to change the membership year cycle.

The Board of Directors is currently reviewing this recommendation to assess impact and develop revisions to the by-laws. Once approved, there will be a requirement to vote on a Special Resolution to amend the bylaws in favour of this proposed change to the membership year. The Registrar of Societies will need to approve the changes before they become effective. Members will be kept informed as to the progress of this activity.

2017 Membership Renewal

Annual membership fees are due now for the 2017 year.

Two Open House times for membership renewals are scheduled for Sunday January 8, 2017  from 1 pm to 3 pm and Saturday January 21, 2017 from 10 am to 2 pm.

Payment in cash or personal cheque. Fees remain unchanged.

Payment (cash or cheque) can also be received at the clubhouse on Monday and Wednesday evenings when the Indoor Range is in use, or by mail with a personal cheque to WRPC, Box 30078 Whitehorse, Yukon Y1A 5M2.

CFSC Inventory Needs Refurbishing

The Whitehorse Rifle & Pistol Club has been involved with delivering the Canadian Firearms Safety Course (CFSC) since the creation of the program. The disabled non-restricted shotguns and rifles that are used in this course were well used at the time they were acquired, but the actions still functioned. Now, after 20 plus years of handling and working those actions, these firearms have really passed their “best before date”. Course participants are met with frustration when trying to learn how to safely use a firearm, when it does not cycle the ammunition as it should.

The club would like to refurbish the inventory of disabled non-restricted firearms.  At the most we will require two of each of the following action types: Break or Hinge Action, Bolt Action, Pump Action (shotgun preferred), Lever Action, Semi-automatic (22 LR preferred). The club will assume the costs associated with disabling the firearms according to the standards of the program.

If you have a  firearm that you are willing to contribute please submit your contact information and type of firearm through the “Contact Us” tab to secretary@wrpc.ca
